The three categories of the food chain are producers, consumers, and decomposers, and they are all dependent on each other!
1. Producers get their food and energy from the sun. This process is call photosynthesis. Plants are called producers. This is because they produce their own food!
2. Consumers need to eat their own food to get energy. Animals are called consumers because they cannot make their own food, so they need to consume plants and other animals for energy!
3. Decomposers eat dead things and turn it back into dirt. EW! Mushrooms, worms and bacteria are examples of decomposers.
